Sanity and loveThere is a picture at the edge of my bedroom. The frame is white with black smears, from grubby hands playing with it in the clearance aisle at Wal-Mart. It was bought in late February or even early March. Only recently was it filled with pictures, the ones considered the most important. The item itself is comprised of eight separate windows. Each picture was painstakingly printed on cardboard paper and cursed over and over for printing incorrectly. Though, thinking back, perhaps it was the printer and not the prints themselves that were the problem. Behind the top corner rests a poem, called Exotic Places. Above it sits a shelf. We were so naïve, made of chalk drawings of suns and cubes in the drive, paisley jumpers or jeans with holes and mud under fingernails.
To think, a stick was just a stick and not a sword or a metaphor between us. And our multiplying freckles were only signs of age, not beauty or relics of kisses left by angels and mothers and you.
